Known for his work with Corners and for previous records blending psychedelic garage and hazy indie rock, the Californian musician here takes a more introspective turn, driven by compositions written primarily on piano during the pandemic. Fueled by the loss of his father and the birth of his first child, The Well unfolds raw emotion through a subtle blend of melancholic pop, krautrock, post-punk, and psychedelic folk. Produced by Joo-Joo Ashworth, the album alternates between hypnotic motorik rhythms, stripped-down arrangements, and inhabited songs where fragility meets an almost mechanical tension.
