Tom is in the musical lineage of Rupert Holmes, Stephen Bishop, Andrew Gold, David Batteau, and, of course, Captain Fantastic and the Thin White Duke. His soulful songs and high-pitched voice (he was once dubbed “Tom Rapp on helium”) are accompanied by virtuoso, jazz-inflected Los Angeles musicians, resulting in a mesmerizing, flavorful and melodic sound. Brilliantly mixed and mastered by Jim O’Rourke (who previously brought back to life recordings from the same era for Judee Sill’s posthumous album, *Dreams Come True*, in 2005), *Echo Park* is an immersive journey through another time and place. A trumpet player since childhood, Tommy had no need for pop music; he came of age musically during the West Coast jazz explosion of the 1950s, attending legendary performances by Gerry Mulligan and Chet Baker at the Haig Club, barely a mile west of MacArthur Park. Inspired by the breakup of Ornette Coleman’s quartet, he formed The Jazz Corps in 1963, performing throughout the city, including a residency at the Lighthouse, another legendary venue in Hermosa Beach. Jazz was Tommy’s passion, but when he injured his side playing solos in a big band, he couldn’t play for long without aggravating his injury. Things had to change. Fortunately, opportunities were plentiful at the time. In 1968, he met Judee Sill, a promising young singer-songwriter. Her energy was incredible: she played bass in a band he was performing with. He quickly realized that Judee and he were made for each other! When Tommy picked up his guitar and started writing songs, she was there to help and encourage him. Tommy continued to make music, releasing new tracks with the Plastic Theatre Art Band in 1996, and several albums under his own name, the most recent in 2011. And he continues to perform today, at the venerable age of 90! Mixed and mastered by Jim O'Rourke, *Echo Park* is an exhilarating journey through the past.","brand":"Tommy Peltier","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":56621604176216,"sku":null,"price":20260403.0,"currency_code":"EUR","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0898\/4943\/0360\/files\/0781484097716.jpg?v=1771011145","url":"https:\/\/vinyles.com\/en\/products\/tommy-peltier_echo-park-the-70s-sessions_2026_mdl","provider":"Vinyles.com","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
