Brazil Classics 4: The Best Of Tom Ze - Massive Hits - By David Byrne
Description
Tom Zé, born Antônio José Santana Martins in 1936 in Irara in the state of Bahia, is a Brazilian composer and multi-instrumentalist, and one of the main architects of the tropicalist movement in the 1960s. After the Brazilian military government of the 1960s began cracking down on tropicalist musicians, Zé withdrew from public attention and started experimenting with new instruments and compositional styles. While the other major figures of tropicalism would go on to achieve great commercial and critical success in the following decades, Zé fell into obscurity in the 1970s and 1980s. After the peak of the movement in the 1960s, Zé thus fell somewhat into oblivion. It was only in the 1990s, when musician and producer David Byrne (Talking Heads) discovered an album recorded years earlier by Zé, that the latter began performing in public and recording again.Buy Brazil Classics 4: The Best Of Tom Ze - Massive Hits - By David Byrne at the best price
