A Poet's Life

Description

Tim Armstrong, guitarist and frontman for Rancid, took a different road for his 2007 solo debut. With the backing of Los Angeles reggae revivalists the Aggrolites, Armstrong crafted a modern, groovy, and fun reggae album, influenced by ska, rock steady, roots reggae, and dancehall, and filtered through a modern pop-punk attitude. The sound of the record (nimble, bouncing, and rootsy yet utterly modern) immediately impresses, but as the record goes on, Armstrong's vocals assert themselves as the star. His raspy croon, staccato timbre, and hoarse holler adapt surprisingly well to the reggae sound.
