ETHIOPIAN URBAN MODERN MUSIC VOL. 4 (vinyl)

Description

Heavenly Sweetness is proud to announce the vinyl reissue of the Ethiopiques series. 8 records from the formidable Ethiopiques collection, which since 1997, has introduced a wide audience to the treasures of the Ethiopian scene of the 60s and 70s, including some of the founding fathers such as Mulatu Astatke, Mahmoud Ahmed and Tilahun Gessesse. The series has been well known by Global Groove seekers for years but reached a wider audience thanks to Jim Jarmusch's film "Broken Flowers", which heavily used Ethiopian jazz in its soundtrack. Most of these records are classics of groove music and have been excellent sellers for years, like Fela Kuti's albums, Fania's salsa records or compilations made by Soul Jazz records. Although still completely unknown to the Western public, Tilahoun Gèssèssè is for Ethiopians THE VOICE! Their first pan-Ethiopian star, who has been unanimously acclaimed since his debut in the 60s until his death in 2009. A kind of Ethiopian Johnny Hallyday... and groovy!
