Composer Tigran Hamasyan’s new album, ‘The Call Within’, features ten original compositions and includes Evan Marien on electric bass, Arthur Hnatek on drums, as well as special guests such as Tosin Abasi on “Vortx”, Areni Agbabian and Artyom Manukyan on “Our Film”.
Produced by Hamasyan, ‘The Call Within’ is a journey into the artist’s dreamlike inner world, which is as realistic to him as the physical world. Hamasyan, who believes that “the moment of unconscious creation is the way to feel conscious”, states: “Ineffable seconds of nostalgia, subliminal realization and, most importantly, joy fill the body like a work of art, a poem or a melody born into this world for no apparent reason, but only for humanity to discover what is invisible: the divine mystery.”
The album is inspired by Tigran Hamasyan’s interest in maps from different eras, as well as Armenian Christian and pre-Christian poetry, folk tales and legends, astrology, geometry, ancient Armenian design, rock carvings, and cinematography – blurring the lines between historical reality and imagination.
