CACADA NOTURNA (vinyl)

Description

Tigana Santana's seventh album, recorded in Serpa, Portugal, with musicians and friends Leonardo Mendes and Ldson Galter, is fundamentally rooted in string instruments—guitars and various bass modalities. This project primarily aims to present songs Tigana had long aspired to create. The only track recorded in Brazil, specifically in São Paulo at Estúdio Arsis, 'O véu' (The Veil), features special appearances by singer Fabiana Cozza and musician Henrique Araújo, invited to play the cavaquinho. The seven tracks on this seventh album are mostly new musical themes, with only one not composed by Tigana. This is 'Das matas' (From the Forests), which opens the album and, composed by musician Fabricio Mota, pays homage to the hunting deity Oxóssi. In this same track, Tigana recites a text of his own creation that dialogues with the homage evoked by the song. Furthermore, a second homage to the hunting deity (or broadly, searching), to whom Tigana is initiated in the Congolese-Angolan Candomblé religion, appears in his own composition in the African Kikongo language, 'Nkongo' ('hunter' in Portuguese), which was recorded by singer Jurema Paes on the album 'Mestiça' (Mixed). It should be noted that the title of the work, 'Caçada Noturna' (Night Hunt), comes from the eponymous poem by Paulo Colina (one of Tigana Santana's favorite poets) and aligns with the tributes to the hunting deity, as well as with the poetics, tones, and themes related to the nocturnal, the lunar, deep feelings, and mystery. There is only one instrumental theme, 'Estrelas pernoitadas' (Overnight Stars), making it an album more focused on songs with diverse approaches and subjects. It includes songs such as 'O amor simples' (Simple Love), 'Partes de mim' (Parts of Me), and 'Coração ao largo' (Open Heart). Visual artist Ani Ganzala is responsible for the album cover painting, which will be distributed on streaming platforms, CD, and vinyl worldwide. The album is produced by Leonardo Mendes, Ldson Galter, and Tigana Santana; it was mixed and mastered by André Magalhães; executive production is by Mônica Cosas; and it is distributed worldwide by the Swedish label ajabu! which has collaborated with Tigana for over ten years. The support of the Portuguese cultural center Musibéria, where the project was carried out in the city of Serpa, Alentejo, in July 2023, should also be highlighted.
