Post-classical composer, sound artist, and curator Matthew Patton returns with his second album under the name Those Who Walk Away. Afterlife Requiem is an elegy dedicated to his friend and collaborator Jóhann Jóhannsson. Drones, electroacoustics, and quasi-silences extracted from unfinished recordings on Jóhannsson’s hard drives underpin two string quintets, Ghost Orchestra (Reykjavík) and Possible Orchestra (Winnipeg), processed and erased into a long and melancholic work.
