The award-winning roots rock group Thorbjørn Risager & The Black Tornado are true nomads at heart: not a month goes by without them being on tour. They live for the stage, and so it is only natural that they are releasing a live album, « Live at Hotel Cecil », on June 19, 2026. Located in the heart of Copenhagen, Hotel Cecil has housed a jazz club, a theater, and originally served as a meeting place, conference hall, and administrative center for the women's emancipation movement in Denmark when it was built in 1936. In an Art Deco setting, it is perfectly suited to the smooth and captivating blues sounds of Denmark's most tireless band. The eight musicians take the raised stage, the curtains rise, and as the lights dim, the group's neon logo captivates the eye and the curtain-draped room transports you elsewhere, to another time. That is where the Danish sensations cast their spell. Thorbjørn Risager (vocals, electric guitar), Emil Balsgaard (organ, keyboards), Joachim Svensmark (electric guitar), Kasper Wagner (baritone saxophone), Hans Nybo (tenor saxophone), Peter W. Kehl (trumpet), Søren Bøjgaard (bass) and Martin Seidelin (drums, percussion) make up the band. They have won four Danish Music Awards (out of seven nominations), the « Best Band » award at the European Blues Awards and the prestigious German Record Critics' Annual Prize (Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik Jahrespreis). With over 1,500 concerts under their belt, they have won over international audiences thanks to an exceptional stage presence and a unique sound, fusing soul, Chicago blues, boogie and rock 'n' roll, with a voice that evokes Ray Charles, Van Morrison and Billy Gibbons. They have opened for Bonnie Raitt and the Tedeschi Trucks Band, jammed with the legendary Buddy Guy and even won over a fan in Elwood Blues himself - Dan Aykroyd! - who hailed their « fiery rhythm and blues ».
