Jazz at Berlin Philharmonic XII : Sketches of Miles

Description

A concert tribute to Miles Davis at the Berlin Philharmonie by one of the new iconic figures of the international jazz scene. Spotted by Dee Dee Bridgewater at the turn of the 2010s, trumpeter Theo Croker quickly lived up to the hopes the diva placed in him. With four majestic albums and over 20 million streams, the New Yorker continues an exciting journey with Latin, jazz, funk, and hip-hop inspirations. Afro-Americanism and groove as his banner, Theo Croker has always made his roots the engine of his creativity. Without concealing his taste for today's sounds, he fuses classical excellence with a swaying lyricism, filled with African influences and hip-hop beats. This double CD/LP, recorded live at the Berlin Philharmonie in November 2021, pays tribute to one of the great tutelary figures in jazz history: Miles Davis. Theo Croker revisits Miles's repertoire: the first CD focuses on Miles's large ensembles throughout history, and the second CD on the orchestral repertoire with musicians from the Berlin Philharmonic (albums "Miles Ahead," "Porgy And Bess," "Sketches Of Spain"). Note the superb lineup of musicians accompanying the trumpeter (including the phenomenal Gregory Hutchinson on drums).
