ALL SOULS HILL

Description

If there's one band that isn't hanging up its gloves, it's The Waterboys. Here then is *All Souls Hill*, their 15th album – an album Scott describes as "a unique Waterboys record because of the degree of collaboration." The bulk of this nine-song album consists of six tracks written with Manchester-based producer/writer Simon Dine. Musical legend Robbie Robertson is also featured. Scott covers the Canadian's 2019 song, "Once We Were Brothers." "It's rewritten in part by me, with Robbie's permission, which was unexpected and incredibly gracious of him. 'Once We Were Brothers' is a beautiful song, but I thought: 'I wish he'd said more.' I found myself writing extra lyrics for it." The 1948 country-folk standard "Passing Through" is reborn with freshly written verses by Scott in the form of a nine-minute gospel epic, and the elegiac "Hollywood Blues" is composed with Waterboys keyboardist James Hallawell. Rock'n roll, galloping piano, electronic ballad, country folk, politicized poetry, spoken word... this is what's on the menu for this atypical band's 15th album. The Irish band still has something to say and continues to forge its musical path.
