German pianist and composer Bruno Heinen, based in London, draws inspiration from 20th-century classical compositions as well as the jazz tradition. His music has been described as eclectic, eccentric, and quietly erudite by The Guardian. This album is inspired by Béla Bartók's Mikrokosmos, drawing on elements and ideas from volume 6 of the composer's work, as well as lyrics in the form of quotes from Bartók, to create a new suite.Bruno Heinen's quartet, The W, is a new contemporary jazz group featuring charismatic British jazz singer Heidi Vogel. On drums is New Yorker Gene Calderazzo, a major figure on the international jazz scene. On double bass, Italian Andrea Di Biase has played with luminaries such as Norma Winstone and Kenny Wheeler.
