After a break during the 80s, the Rolling Stones made a grand return to the stage in 1989 with the "Steel Wheels Tour," their longest tour at the time. It was also their last with founding bassist Bill Wyman. "Steel Wheels Live" was filmed in December, during the final dates of the 60 concerts held in North American stadiums. Ticket sales skyrocketed, of course, but more importantly, the design of the stage and lighting for the "Steel Wheels Tour" would set the standard for the giant tours as we know them today. The special appearances by Axl Rose, Izzy Stradlin, Eric Clapton, and John Lee Hooker at this date in Atlantic City make it an even more extraordinary document of the band's return to the road.
