Soul Jazz Records is re-releasing the forgotten COUNT OSSIE & THE RASTA FAMILY album, Man From Higher Heights, originally released in 1983, in a remastered version including the original artwork. This release follows COUNT OSSIE AND THE MYSTIC REVELATION OF RASTAFARI's album Tales Of Mozambique, re-released earlier this year. COUNT OSSIE is a central figure in the development of Rasta music, and remains to this day a mythical and emblematic figure of the 1970s. Recorded in Kingston, Jamaica, sometime between the last Mystic Revelation album and the official release of Man From Higher Heights in 1983, it is still unknown today whether this album is a mix of original recordings including additional musicians, or solely the musicians of Mystic Revelation remaining faithful to the spirit of COUNT OSSIE, who tragically died in a car accident in 1976. In both cases, this album is a fascinating and successful blend of Rastafarian rhythms and percussion and deep jazz improvisation. Even today, Man From Higher Heights remains one of the most elusive releases of COUNT OSSIE's progressive Rastafari recordings, the last of his career.
