TALKING THROUGH REPETITION (2 vinyls)

Description

Since their first album, 'Silence Slowly And Madly Shines' (Alter K), released in 2017, the members of The Psychotic Monks have consistently impressed us with their maturity and their determination to offer a unique stage and discographic presence. Their secret: a constant self-questioning that permeates each of their actions and led the band to release Private Meaning First (Vicious Circle / FatCat Records) in 2019, an incendiary second album that redefines the very alphabet of their music in two chapters and a fifteen-minute epilogue. It's worth remembering that there is no leader within the band; everyone writes, sings, and composes in unison. This leads to questioning not only their practice but also their personal positioning and, of course, their relationship with the audience. The pandemic arrived, a period that allowed for significant introspection. New tracks were then composed through long studio improvisations, in total connection with the unconscious, and arrived in 2023 as an act of resistance to the ambient violence. This 3rd album, Pink Colour Surgery (Vicious Circle / FatCat Records), produced by Daniel Fox of Gilla Band, was thus born from these perpetual questionings. Here, one should not necessarily expect the "song" format, but rather a sonic chaos whose wild flights the band has tamed to create an uncompromising setting, where every idea has found its own space of freedom. The album achieved great success (in Libération's top albums of 2023, Mowno's 2nd best album of 2023, radio and TV appearances, recording a KEXP session in Seattle, etc.) and embarked the band on a long tour throughout the year. In early 2024, they shared 10 dates in the United Kingdom with Gilla Band in sold-out and electrifying clubs before returning to play in various European countries. Rock en Seine also featured them. Highly renowned for their explosive and emotionally charged live performances, The Psychotic Monks decided to record their current live set in the luxurious Parisian studios La Frette (Nick Cave, Arctic Monkeys, etc.) to capture it in time and share it with a larger number of fans. The release of the double album, once again produced with Daniel Fox, is scheduled for June 2024 and will undoubtedly contribute to establishing the French band as one of the flagships of independent rock in Europe.
