This compilation of Platters classics, drawn from EPs released in the United States, the United Kingdom, and France between 1956 and 1962, offers a first-rate selection of A-sides, B-sides, and a few previously unreleased tracks. It features all their greatest hits, including "Only You," "The Great Pretender," "The Magic Touch," "My Prayer," "Twilight Time," "Smoke Gets In Your Eyes," and "Harbour Lights," all of which sold millions of copies. In the mid to late 1950s, the Platters were the most popular vocal group in the world. They appeared in dozens of hit American television shows, in six iconic rock 'n' roll films, and headlined tours in the United States, the United Kingdom, continental Europe, Australia, South America, and the Philippines. Unfortunately, their popularity suffered a sharp decline in 1960 when lead singer Tony Williams, with his distinctive high, melodious tenor voice, left the group to pursue a solo career.
