In Search Of A Revival

Description

In 2008, Toby Pazner and a group of New York musicians recorded in a Brooklyn bedroom on a Tascam 388 what would become The Olympians' first 45, initially released by Truth & Soul Records. Eight years later, while touring the Greek Islands, Pazner had a strange dream in which a robed figure invited him to build a "Temple of Sound." This dream gave birth to the band's eponymous album in 2016 on Daptone Records, critically acclaimed and considered one of the best instrumental soul records of the decade. Ten years after that first album, Pazner returns with *In Search of a Revival* (Daptone Records), entirely composed, arranged, and produced by him. Bringing together an ensemble of 17 musicians — former collaborators and newcomers — the album draws as much inspiration from the classics of Curtis Mayfield and James Brown as it does from cinematic textures and the vintage sound of Gold Star Studios. Between the harps of "Sirens of Jupiter" and the final fanfare of "Sagittarius By Moonlight," The Olympians deliver a unique sound, dreamt of in faraway Greece, blending lush arrangements and solid rhythms. A new album that celebrates instrumental soul while pushing its boundaries.
