They made it! The Libertines have recorded a second album once again overseen by Mick Jones of The Clash... The odds were not in their favor with Pete Doherty's opiate and police escapades, currently excluded from the band until further notice (as soon as he gets clean, if he ever does), but the English group, led by Carl Barât, managed to pull through. Recorded in a rush, produced by a Mick Jones who seems to be there just to capture everything on his record, including the mistakes, this second album is even more chaotic than "Up The Bracket," and once again shows that the Libertines do not cheat. That's the spirit. As for the music, once again, the band evokes a super messy and anarchic version of The Jam, The Smiths, Supergrass, or The Undertones. Throughout these tracks, some of which honestly sound like demos, the band's disheveled romanticism becomes increasingly evident, even though the future of the group remains uncertain: Doherty is an essential songwriter for the Libertines. Without him, what would they become?
