The Kinks' fourteenth studio album, from 1975, and a continuation of the band's theatrical musical style since 'Preservation Acts 1 & 2'. Soap Opera is the most grandiose concept album ever made by The Kinks, in which Ray Davies addresses the theme of how "ordinary people" escape from the doldrums by dreaming of stardom. In this album, a musician called "Starmaker" exchanges his life with an ordinary man named Norman to better understand life. The most notable tracks are "A Face In The Crowd", "Underneath The Neon Sign" and the excellent "You Can't Stop The Music".This is the first re-release of the album since the original album was released, with the exception of a limited edition US pressing in 2008.This rock opera tells the story of a musical star who takes the place of Norman, an ordinary citizen, to discover what life is like for "ordinary people". Musically, it features the brass section and female backing vocals from 'Preservation Act 1' and 'Preservation Act 2'. The cover art is by artist Joe Petagno.
