'Preservation Act 1' is the first part of a sprawling rock opera titled 'Preservation'. Its sequel, the double album 'Preservation Act 2', was released the following year. Originally, only the double album was meant to be released; this Act 1 was conceived retroactively as a prologue to introduce the setting and characters of the story.
