BBC Sessions 1963 – 1964 – 1965

Description

This disc features sixteen previously unreleased tracks from The Hollies' early BBC sessions, including a recently discovered track from 1963 with former drummer Don Rathbone. The opening of 1964's "Something's Got A Hold On Me" shows how much Bobby Elliot's dynamic drumming improved the band's sound. The recordings are almost entirely live, with Graham Nash and Allan Clarke perfecting their Everly Brothers-esque harmonies, while virtuoso guitarist Tony Hicks plays both rhythm and lead at the same time. From mid-1965 onwards, the BBC acquired more sophisticated recording equipment, so additional vocal overdubs and reverb can be heard on songs such as "Stay" and "I'm Alive." The sound quality is exceptional and, thanks to artificial intelligence, we have managed to erase all the annoying presenter chatter at the beginning and end of each track. The album includes a stereo version of "Yes I Will."
