The Pittsburgh band signs with Sub Pop and takes us back to the 90s with their wild and punchy new punk/post-punk/indie album. The GOTOBEDS are Sub Pop's new signing. But... who are they? One word, one name, a bit like their super-punk family name. Singer-guitarist Hazy Lazer tells us their story. In 2009, when he had just lost his job, Lazer ran into an old friend, Parryman, and they started talking about starting a band. Shortly after, Arid Plateau became their bassist. After seeing a few guitarists come and go, COOL U, who played drums in Hazy Lazer's band Kim Phuc, picked up a guitar and completed the band's final lineup.Ultimately, THE GOTOBEDS are a mix of indie/punk/post-punk done DIY-style, a bit like their idols Sonic Youth, Mission of Burma, Wire...Recently, we heard the cheeky first single Real Maths/Too Much from their new album, their first on Sub Pop, BLOOD // SUGAR // SECS // TRAFFIC, produced by Matt Schor and mastered by Matthew Barnhart. These are eleven tracks of agitated and punchy punk/post-punk, reminiscent of Devo or Wire, where each song rings out at different tempos. As a little surprise, there are a few guest vocalists like Tim Midyett (Silkworm, Bottomless Pit, Mint Mile) on 'Rope' or members of Protomartyr on 'Why'd you'.They do what they want and what they love, they are punks. And one thing is for sure, with them we are back in the 90s.
