Put in a shaker a former guitarist of Bob Seger, the talented drummer of an unknown band, the former bassist of Poco, and the former guitarist of the Flying Burrito Brothers; have them meet in Los Angeles and you get the iconic country rock band. This is exactly what happened to the four founding members of Eagles: a timely and explosive meeting, as each brings their talent and expertise. Don Henley, Glenn Frey, Randy Meisner, and Bernie Leadon are all very capable singers; their vocal harmonies and different solo voices will become a hallmark of the Eagles. The album Eagles, released in 1972, immediately highlights the complementarity of the musicians and their voices, as well as the quality of the compositions, whether they are by the band members or co-written with Jackson Browne, Gene Clark, or Jack Tempchin ("Peaceful Easy Feeling"). Eagles features a perfect balance of rock, country, and folk, and this blend contributes to the album's immediate success with no less than three hits in the top charts in the United States: "Take it Easy," "Witchy Woman," and "Peaceful Easy Feeling." These now universally known tracks should not overshadow the fact that Eagles contains other gems: "Train Leaves Here This Morning" and "Chug All Night" are perfect examples that deserve not to be forgotten.
