Pressed in a limited edition of only 500 copies worldwide, it's a true collector's item. Formed in 2019, this instrumental quartet – Daniil Lutsenko (electric guitar), Kamil Gazizov (keyboards), Maksim Brusov (bass), and Anton Moskvin (drums and percussion) – quickly achieved cult status thanks to a series of highly sought-after 45s, followed by their debut album, mixed by Henry Jenkins and critically acclaimed, particularly in France. On the A-side of this 45, “Oriole” is a vintage disco-funk hit that also draws from Soviet-era jazz fusion, as well as 70s European library music and the synth-funk movement. A minimalist synthesizer melody, evoking the song of the oriole, combined with a sustained disco-funk groove reminiscent of a moving train (“Oriole” is also the name of a popular Russian electric train), forms the basis of their most danceable track to date. The B-side features the equally powerful “Chickadee,” a funk stomper with a bold bassline, powerful b-boy breaks and percussion, and an early 80s New York vibe capable of igniting any dancefloor.
