Dave Brubeck recorded "Time Out", which was so successful that even the musicians were surprised. The band rose to the challenge of experimenting with musical genres foreign to jazz. Most of the tracks were composed by Dave Brubeck himself. One of the album's catchiest tunes, "Take Five", is a Paul Desmond composition that would become one of the quartet's most famous tracks. The album is dedicated to Lieutenant Colonel John H.
