Description

In 2009, after their notable appearance at the Edinburgh festival, Peter Gabriel proposed to the Creole Choir of Cuba to release an album under his label, Real World. Tande-La was therefore recorded in a week, and upon its release, it had the effect of a small euphoric bomb. This second album for the label is a superb confirmation: the choir demonstrates a rare energy and cathartic intensity. "When we sing, we are emotionally involved, we must feel what we sing to convey emotion. There are people who cry at our concerts." It is these moments, these stories, these lives, this uprooting that the Creole Choir of Cuba invites us to share here through a vibrant tribute served by deep, moving, and charismatic voices only accompanied by subtle percussion. Voices dedicated to a repertoire of traditional Haitian songs, more contemporary songs, but also songs of Cuban inspiration, son, guaguanco, cha cha cha. The beauty of this record is that it is a true Creole work, music of mixed blood, in which we hear the emotional crossing of Latin, Caribbean influences, but also gospel or even European. A beautiful and moving success.
