The Cramps was an American rock band formed in 1975 in Sacramento, California, and disbanded after the death of singer Lux Interior on February 4, 2009. Throughout their long career, although they were categorized differently by fans and music journalists according to trends, its members defined themselves as a rock 'n' roll band, both in sound and spirit – the term psychobilly, with which they are generally associated, more accurately designates an English scene influenced by them, but whose primary instigators truly remain The Meteors. The Cramps were indeed part of an American rock 'n' roll tradition, unique in their fusion of three distinct genres: rockabilly, garage punk, and psychedelia, all three also stemming from American counterculture. Their stated initial goal was to cross Carl Perkins with Shadows of Knight. Their music blended rockabilly (Carl Perkins), garage rock (Shadows of Knight), psychedelia, and punk rock, against a backdrop of drugs, sex, and B-movie horror. A Date with Elvis is the fourth studio album by the American band The Cramps.
