Has there ever been a more underrated group than The Beau Brummels? Their work rivals that of many more famous bands (country rock, for example, would be almost inconceivable without albums like Bradley's Barn and Triangle). Thus, the reappearance of The Beau Brummels in 1975, with their original lineup for the first time since their self-titled debut album of 1965, was a landmark event. The resulting self-titled album, produced by Ted Templeman and Lenny Waronker, remains one of the greatest "reunion" albums in rock history, thanks to Ron Elliott's excellent compositions and Sal Valentino's voice, offering a modern and elegant version of the Brummels' signature folk and country style. However, bassist Ron Meagher left the group before the end of the recording sessions, and the subsequent tour did not allow for the album's promotion. As a result, The Beau Brummels never received the recognition it deserved. However, a reassessment is in order... because this new expanded edition features exceptionally high-quality remastered sound and no fewer than thirteen demos, alternate versions, and previously unreleased takes from the recording sessions, recently discovered in the Warner Bros. archives. The producer of this reissue, Alec Palao, worked closely with surviving members of the Brummels family to shape this version, and tells the full story of its creation in a detailed essay included in the illustrated box set.
