On the evening of Thanksgiving Day 1976, The Band took the stage for the very last time at the Winterland Theatre in San Francisco. This concert, titled The Last Waltz, is part of the most famous stage performances of all time.
During this show, Rick Danko, Levon Helm, Garth Hudson, Richard Manuel, and Robbie Robertson were joined by an all-star cast including Eric Clapton, Neil Diamond, Bob Dylan, Ronnie Hawkins, Dr. John, Joni Mitchell, Van Morrison, Muddy Waters, and Neil Young.
The evening was filmed by Martin Scorsese. Released in theaters and critically acclaimed in April 1978, The Last Waltz is still considered one of the best concert films ever made.
Rhino will celebrate the 40th anniversary of The Last Waltz with three new editions bringing together for the first time the audio and video of the concert.
