Th Da Freak's breakthrough might evoke that of his idols. Because it's always a kind of miracle, when you think about it – that moment when a "normal" guy picks up a guitar and becomes a superhero, as capable of taking us to the other side of the looking glass as he is of crying into our beer when our hearts break into a thousand pieces on the icy tiles of adulthood. Sharpened by frequenting Bordeaux's basements and rehearsing in the attic with his brothers, Thoineau Palis used his formative years to absorb everything he could, from Dylan to Nirvana, from the Velvet Underground to Californian garage rock, and that's truly where the miracle happened. Far from resembling a Netflix series soundtrack or a boring Spotify playlist, his music struck bubble grunge and clever punk fans like lightning hitting the clock tower in Hill Valley. Previously fascinated by eccentric pop geeks who self-produce everything (from Brian Wilson to R Stevie Moore to Connan Mockasin), Thoineau Palis collaborated for the first time with a producer, Bordeaux's Stéphane Gillet (Sam Fleisch, Pretty Inside). But rest assured: this album, *Coyote*, is by no means a "maturity album," quite the opposite. Taking the mischievous canine, the trickster hero of Native American tales (known here as the unlucky cartoon character) as its totem, this new musical narrative is that of an artist bubbling over, consumed by the fire that drives him and the contradictions he finally accepts. Indomitable, unshakeable, and playful. It's in this image that *Coyote*'s 11 tracks resonate, leaping from one mood to another, a profoundly human record that unintentionally hints at instant cult status. We navigate between classy indie punk, heartbreaking pop songs, and a few new influences starting to emerge (kraut or synth rock). This new creative stage confirms the Bordeaux musician's melodic talent and an inspiration that never runs out. Th Da Freak is back!
