Disturbance

Description

In an ideal world, *Disturbance*, the new album from industrial pioneers Test Dept, would not need to exist. Great Britain would not be ravaged by xenophobia, capitalism would not have created a climate crisis, and the working class would not be squeezed by declining purchasing power and rising prices… Test Dept formed in 1981, forging a new sound from the depths of a squat and quickly becoming leaders of an underground movement that placed them under surveillance by the British government. Thirty-seven years later, on *Disturbance*, the music is still just as incendiary. “It all started as an archive project,” Cunnington recalls. It was the early 2010s, and Test Dept had been on hiatus for several years. The founding duo wanted to re-release their music, and naturally, the idea for a new album took shape. Reworking bits of old tracks, Cunnington and Jamrozy rediscovered the experimental fire of their beginnings, combining protest poetry with furious sounds. The result is an album that looks to the past and roars into the future.
