Discovered by Blake Rhein, guitarist of The Indications, he joined the Colemine Records family, where an immediate artistic connection was forged with label founder Terry Cole. His first single for Colemine was recorded at the Portage Lounge in Loveland, Ohio, with Charles Alley on drums. Taylor overflows with talent, charisma, and kindness: shortly after recording the rhythm tracks for "Dreaming," he wrote the chorus, verses, and laid down his vocals—in a single take. The B-side of this 45-rpm single features his rendition of a rare track from the Numero Group catalog, by The Exceptional Three.
