TaxiWars displays high-tension energy, sensitivity, pride, ambition, and a punk side that sets it apart from the more upscale aspects of the jazz scene, thanks to the saxophone of Belgian Robin Verheyen and the spells of the lyrics penned by Tom Barman. TaxiWars is jazz. This is not just about rock singer Tom Barman (leader of the Belgian band dEUS) - who croons in front of the jazz trio of saxophonist Robin Verheyen (who has played with Marc Copland, Ravi Coltrane, Gary Peacock, or Joey Baron); it is a jazz orchestra whose knowledge of the history of this music is encyclopedic, and whose love for jazz, especially the albums impulse! from the Sixties, is limitless: the energetic music of Pharoah Sanders, Archie Shepp, Charles Mingus filled with swing, strong pulses, and the desire to break the constraints of the genre.
