The Finnish soprano singer Tarja Turunen is one of the most important female icons in the metal scene: she is the one who invented female symphonic metal when she was in Nightwish, with the success we know. However, her first love is classical singing, which has led her to blend genres, as in the projects Tarja Turunen & Harus or Beauty & The Beat. It is therefore quite natural that Tarja returns today with her first solo album entirely dedicated to classical singing: Ave Maria - En Plein Air. As its title indicates, this album features 12 sublime "Ave Maria" imagined by a wide range of composers: Paolo Tosti, David Popper, Astor Piazzolla, not to mention Johann Sebastian Bach or Charles Gounod. Accompanied by a majestic organ, a cello, and a harp, Tarja Turunen literally brings these traditional airs back to life, her voice being perfectly highlighted by the exceptional acoustics of the Lakeuden Risti church in Seinäjoki, Finland, where this album was recorded.
