Since a decade, the close collaboration between pianist Kirill Gerstein and composer and pianist Thomas Adès has borne remarkable fruits, including this new release on the Myrios Classics label. In the rich acoustics of the Boston Symphony Hall, Gerstein plays the three Mazurkas for solo piano, as well as two world premieres: the Berceuse (excerpt from the opera L'Ange exterminateur) and the two-piano version of the concert paraphrase on Powder Her Face, played by Gerstein and the composer himself. This album also features In Seven Days by Thomas Adès for piano and orchestra, a composition that anticipates his very recent Piano Concerto, written, like the Berceuse, for Gerstein. The live recording of In Seven Days comes from the Seiji Ozawa Hall during the Tanglewood Festival in 2018, with the composer conducting the Tanglewood Music Center Orchestra.
