Disco icon and staunch LGBTQ+ activist, Sylvester gave one of the most prestigious concerts of his career at the War Memorial Opera House in San Francisco on March 11, 1979.
In front of over 3,000 spectators and backed by a 26-piece orchestra, Sylvester performed his essential dancefloor hits “You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real)” and “Dance (Disco Heat)” alongside a selection of original tracks and covers including, among others, “Never Can Say Goodbye,” Ben E. King’s “I (Who Have Nothing),” and The Beatles’ “Blackbird.” Available for the first time in its complete version, "Live at the Opera House" is one of the flagship albums of Sylvester’s discography, as well as a significant breakthrough for the gay movement in puritanical 1970s America.
