{"product_id":"sunhae-im_antiochus-und-stratonica-opera_2021","title":"Antiochus Und Stratonica Opera","description":"At 23, Christoph Graupner is engaged as a harpsichordist in the orchestra of the \"Am Gänsemarkt\" Opera in Hamburg, the wolf has entered the sheepfold. He already has several operas in his repertoire, especially a Dido that will enchant the Hamburg audience under the interested gaze of Handel, who was among the violinists of the theater. Not fearing to confront the operas of Keiser, who then reigns supreme on German lyric stages and even more so in his Hanseatic stronghold, the young man displays boldness. While his operas will be in German, his style, developing ornate ariosos, clearly looks towards Italy and especially towards Cavalli, adopting the dramatic devices of Venetian theater (including the \"second couple\" ancillary), and daring to use an orchestra developed in the French style where the dances, as the reprises go on, will increasingly abound. Antiochus und Stratonica comes, after Dido and Hercules and Theseus, to more uniformly reshape itself within the canons established by Keiser, even if Graupner cannot resist occasionally slipping in a few arias or even a trio (Vivo peneso, vivo al duolo) in Italian, but the inventive libretto by Barthold Find offers him contrasting registers around the often melancholic central love intrigue that gives the opera such a singular color. Graupner is a master of elegy; his sinuous melodies have hardly any equivalent in the history of the Baroque lyric theater in Germany, and the valiant troupe of the Bostonians, led by a carefully composed cast, does justice to this work full of surprises (even in its final entertainment), whose dances are included in the wonderful orchestral suites that Bach, who inherited the position of Cantor in Leipzig after Graupner declined it, admired so much. After his orchestral music and splendid cantatas, has the time for his operas come? Just listen to \"Care son d’amore le catene\" sung by Stratonica in Act 2 in the fruity soprano of Hana Blazikova...
