It was designed by Steve in collaboration with the luthiers of the Hoshino group (Ibanez). It features a 12-string neck that becomes fretless from the 9th fret (with bridge and pickups), a 7-string neck (with floating vibrato), and a headless bass section with a neck fretted only on the first two strings. Additionally, thirteen strings on the bottom of the instrument offer brand new sounds!The result is this nine-song opus that pushes the boundaries of instrumental guitar music. This time, Vai has literally invented not only a new guitar, but also a new guitar playing technique. At the same time, Inviolate presents his most focused, streamlined, and perhaps most invigorating music in years.
