For his 11th ECM album, guitarist Steve Tibbetts develops his melodic and nostalgic improvisations over a rhythmic backdrop made of layered loops, drones, and the deep rumble of percussion. While the sonic colors, drawn notably from the distortions of the electric guitar and the shimmer of a 12-string acoustic guitar, clearly connect the music to the Western world, its developments leading to forms of hypnosis evoke Eastern traditions.
