Persistent rumors are confirmed: Stephen Malkmus's "electro" album, the king of slacker rock, will finally see the light of day! Stephen Malkmus has not turned to an EDM sound, but rather to an electronic groove that is a descendant of Krautrock. He cites "Homosapien" by Pete Shelley and Human League as references. To this list, we could add Kraftwerk, as illustrated by the first single "Viktor Borgia." Stephen Malkmus began writing the album while living in Berlin, drawing inspiration from the local club scene. Recorded solo, without his band The Jicks for the first time since 2001, Groove Denied showcases an arsenal of drum machines and a series of plug-ins and soft synths, but it retains all the lo-fi DNA characteristic of Stephen Malkmus. This new album will challenge preconceived notions and positions him as an essential player in music, from 90s lo-fi rock to hiptronica techno.
