La Femme sans ombre

Description

La Frau according to Thielemann had its first appearance in Salzburg, an artfully filmed performance that produced a beautiful DVD despite the limitations of Christoph Loy's staging. Dominique Meyer did not want to let the centenary of the work's creation pass: in 2019, he entrusted the new production at the Wiener Staatsoper, where the piece was born on October 10, 1919, to Vincent Huguet for a magnificent performance that included the parable and the drama within the intricacies of the tale. The few photographs that adorn the front and the booklet of the box set, without Orfeo bothering to credit the director and his team, raise hopes that the evening was filmed and that it will find its way to a release. Less than in Salzburg, Thielemann refines his orchestra; the marvelous no longer seems to interest him, as from the lament of the falcon, it is the dark tale that inhabits his orchestra, the shadow of the Great War looms over this very dark interpretation that rejects the expressionist charges of the Barak siblings to instead convey a wounded humanity. Since Salzburg, Evelyn Herlitzius has left her Dyer to Nina Stemme, who is certainly not a shrew, but rather burned, an example of style and singing that knows how to be beautiful even in vindictiveness, a model. Herlitzius brought her prophetic singing to a simply anthological Nurse where the memory of Höngen passes: these words are imprecations. Indifferent, as if lost in his eternal hunts, Stephen Gould remains this selfish Emperor whose hardened timbre makes the psyche even more precise. Wolfgang Koch, Barak with a very human timbre but lacking the line that Walter Berry brought, and on the immortal side, the Empress without true magic of Camilla Nylund, who sings beautifully yet must succeed the timbre of penalty and the floating highs of an unreachable Anne Schwanewilms in Salzburg, are minor drawbacks that are compensated by a finely distributed singing company. And the Three, with a gripping tension, touches the sublime. But I need the performance! (Discophilia - Artalinna.com) (Jean-Charles Hoffelé)
