WRWTFWW Records presents the very first vinyl edition of the 1984-1985 period of Startled Insects, a cycle blending abstraction, synth-pop, post-punk, and electronic music, gathered into a single album: The Antenna Years. This essential record from the Bristol music scene is available in a limited LP edition with a thick cover, a booklet, and exceptional liner notes. The Antenna Years compiles the independent EPs/mini-LPs released by Startled Insects in 1984 (self-titled) and 1985 (Underworld/Black Spring), as well as two unreleased bonus tracks, played only live (W.W.W and What A Waste, two outstanding pieces). Undeniably futuristic upon their arrival in 1984, Startled Insects seemed to come from another planet while remaining rooted in the underground scene of Bristol. Abstract electronics, avant-garde synth-pop, experimental dub, gamelan sounds, post-punk spirit, cinematic atmosphere: The Antenna Years takes us on a sonic journey that is as beautiful as it is strange. In the 90s, the band released two albums, including the classic *Curse Of The Pheromones* via Antilles New Directions (Island Records), before evolving into The Insects: composers of film music for BBC/National Geographic, Emmy Award winners, and key figures in the Bristol music scene of the 90s, collaborating with Massive Attack, Goldfrapp, Tricky, and members of Portishead. Forty years later, *The Antenna Years* still sounds like a transmission from the future.
