The music of Squirrel Flower is warm and ethereal, overflowing with emotional depth, and is also sharp and assured. The band plays with delicate intention, keeping the arrangements natural and light, while Williams' guitar is often fiercely unleashed. The album was recorded live at Rare Book Room Studio in New York with producer Gabe Wax (Adrienne Lenker, Palehound, Cass McCombs). At the heart of the album remain Williams' enchanting voice and her moving, melancholic guitar. The sounds expand and contract through several atmospheres, and let loose on the heavier riffs of "Red Shoulder" or "Streetlight Blues," two tracks recorded in Boston.
