Squadron

Description

Sometimes, you lose faith. Labels like Noise, Steamhammer, Mausoleum, Earthshaker or the GAMA label group released many important and good albums in the 80s, but also average or worse ones. Meanwhile, a talented and captivating band, SQUADRON, from the Stuttgart region, remained unknown (until now). Even on Encyclopedia Metallum, you won't find an entry with the two demos they recorded in 1984 and 1985. That is not yet the case. The band was founded in 1983, influenced by Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Warrior, Manowar, Ozzy Osbourne and Dio. One of their first concerts took place as the opening act for Tyrant. They quickly gained a reputation as a gigantic live band, especially since they paid attention not only to polished songs, but also to their attire and show. A few months later, 400 fans came to the Neckerhalle in Esslingen, while Accept was playing right next door on the same day. They also broke the attendance record at "Die Rohre" in Stuttgart, where they gave a big concert after the second demo. Of course, larger labels were also in contact, but no contract was signed. After a festival with Rage, Veto and Stranger, as well as a few concerts with Czakan, 1987 marked the end of the band. Michael Moretto then joined Kymera to replace Andi Deris, who left to join Pink Cream 69. Klaus Sperling is still active in the scene and has been part of Nitrogods since 2011. He became known for his drumming skills with Primal Fear, Sinner, MP and Freedom Call. The material has been meticulously restored and mastered and is now available for the first time on CD and LP. The booklet and cover contain liner notes and tons of photos and illustrations. This band could have gone far back then...
