Requiem

Description

A world premiere of an unpublished version of the Requiem! 1791: a busy year for Mozart who, when commissioned a requiem, is already working on The Magic Flute and must soon deliver La Clemenza di Tito. We know the rest: the commission postponed, exhaustion leading to death, a work left unfinished and whose completion, after several requests to different composers, will fall to Süssmayr. This version gradually established itself as the closest to Mozart's intentions but is not free from writing or orchestration flaws. In 2016, a young French composer, Pierre-Henri Dutron, convinced René Jacobs to produce his own rearrangement of the Requiem completed by Süssmayr. Created with great success during five European concerts in November 2016, this revision is the subject of its first studio recording, exclusively for harmonia mundi.
