The Craft label celebrates the genius of saxophonist Sonny Rollins with a box set that includes all of his recordings for the West Coast jazz label "Contemporary Records." After accompanying Miles Davis, Clifford Brown, and Thelonious Monk in the 1950s, Sonny Rollins emerged as a leader with two albums that marked a stylistic shift from hard bop to cool jazz: 'Way Out West,' recorded in March 1957, and 'Sonny Rollins and the Contemporary Leaders' in 1958. The third album in the box set, 'Contemporary Alternate Takes,' originally released in 1986 and now out of print, features six alternate takes from those two sessions.
