I became interested in melodies from different sources, but what truly inspired me was the singing of the cantors, or hazans, and their inner expressiveness, intimate yet containing such a powerful expression. In this music, the popular and the sacred merge. Whether joyful or sad, slow or fast, prayer, folk song, or even dance, it is always about sharing and intimacy.
