Heroes in love

Description

Orpheus, the famous protagonist of Orfeo ed Euridice, is one of the heroic roles of Gluck, composed for virtuoso alto voices (castrati or female contraltos), and is the subject of this recording. With this new program, Glossa helps to fill an important gap since a large part of this repertoire of arias by Gluck, originally intended for men or cross-dressed heroines, is unexplored and very little recorded. Sonia Prina, a major contralto of her generation, in collaboration with the excellent Milanese ensemble La Barocca, conducted by Ruben Jais, offers us her first operatic recital dedicated to Gluck and brings these heroic arias, wrongly forgotten, back to life.
