Impala

Description

Impala, the legendary and long out-of-print 1998 second album by Songs: Ohia is finally being reissued on vinyl by Secretly Canadian. This reissue includes the addition of a remastered demo of “Tess,” originally captured during the Impala recording sessions. “Lorain, Ohio is a tough place to grow up. You either get out or you don’t. Given the industry that is (or was) here – the steel mill, the Ford plant and the shipyard – the mix of people is unparalleled. One thing is for sure though, this is a blue-collar town, through and through. What does this have to do with the new Songs: Ohia release? Well, Jason, the main man behind Songs, grew up in that very backwater, and while you may be able to leave the town, it never really leaves you. Impala is a further testament to the songwriting talents of Jason Molina. The tracks contained within offer a glimpse into the soul of a man trying to exorcise the demons of life, loss, and subsistence. [...] Pared down to just Jason and Geof Comings for this release, the Impala tracks are both the most stripped down and most textured material the band has ever released. This is one of Songs: Ohia’s most honest and strongest records. Our suggestion: Go to your local Knights of Columbus, pull up a stool at the bar, order a Genesee and drink your wages away while listening to this record. It’s what they do in Lorain.”
