Son Rompe Pera, the brothers band from Naucalpan, Mexico, who single-handedly defined the Cumbia Punk genre and captivated audiences worldwide, released their sophomore album, Chimborazo, in 2023 on the AYA Records label. The album follows their 2020 debut, Batuco, and is a complete departure from it. While Batuco showcased a more folkloric and traditional sound through 9 cover songs, Chimborazo offers 12 original tracks that fiercely shake tradition to its root. Closer to what the world has come to know of the band's wild live shows, Chimborazo is a blend of modern cumbia, tropical dance rhythms, hard-hitting punk, psychedelic guitars, traditional Mexican and Colombian rhythms, brass, and a pinch of dub and hip-hop. It is an album as rebellious as it is reverent, graciously embracing tradition while tearing it apart, one marimba mosh pit at a time. Pressed on green and black vinyl.
